Reusable medical equipment for hospitals in Uganda

We are opening the preparation and fundraising phase for a first shipment of reusable medical equipment from Germany to Uganda. Hospitals in Germany may have equipment they no longer need that can still be useful—but only when it is functional, appropriate and requested by a recipient hospital.

Dr. Eden Ssettabi is our named receiving and distribution coordinator in Uganda. He will work with participating hospitals to document their needs and arrange each handover. Equipment will not be distributed simply because it is available: every allocation must match a recorded need and the hospital’s ability to operate and maintain the device safely.

The €5,000 fundraising goal is fully allocated: up to €1,900 (38%) for vehicle rental, fuel, collection across Germany and temporary storage; up to €3,000 (60%) for suitable packing, freight and shipment handling from Germany to Uganda; and €100 (2%) for essential Kiwa-Projects operating costs such as web hosting, the database and digital administration. These are spending limits for planning, not supplier or carrier quotations. We will publish written costs once the shipment size, weight and route are known, and record actual spending in the project ledger.

Before any device is collected for shipment, we will confirm the recipient, condition, accessories, manuals, power requirements, installation, training, servicing and regulatory responsibilities. The hospital list, accepted device list, written transport quotations and timetable are still being prepared. Fundraising helps us complete that work; shipping will proceed only after those checks are documented.
