Reusable period kits for schoolgirls in Uganda

A period should not stand between a student and her education. Some schoolgirls lack reliable menstrual products, private washing facilities, water, soap or trustworthy information. Together with stigma, these barriers can make participation at school harder and may contribute to missed lessons.

The €1,500 goal funds one complete first round. Our planning allocation is up to €1,020 (68%) for verified reusable period kits, €300 (20%) for freight, import and handling from China to Uganda, €150 (10%) for transport to participating schools and practical guidance materials, and €30 (2%) for essential Kiwa-Projects operating costs such as web hosting, the database and digital administration. These are spending limits, not supplier quotations. The number of kits will depend on the verified specification, written unit price and landed cost. We will publish those details before placing an order and record actual spending in the project ledger.

Dr. Eden Ssettabi will help coordinate with participating schools in Uganda. When the Kiwa-Projects team travels to Uganda, distribution may be carried out together; otherwise Dr. Eden can coordinate the local handover. Before distribution, we will check privacy, water, soap, washing and drying arrangements and identify a responsible school contact. Every handover will include practical guidance and will be documented without identifying students or publishing their stories or images without appropriate consent.

The schools, supplier, product, final kit quantity, landed cost and first distribution date are still being confirmed. Fundraising is open during this preparation phase, but no order will be placed until the product and route are verified. Our longer-term aim is to repeat a well-prepared distribution up to twice a year when funding, school capacity and the results of the previous round support it; future rounds are not included in this €1,500 goal.
